Citing the need to address the refugee crisis and to compensate struggling dairy farmers, MEPs on the European Parliament’s Budget Committee yesterday voted to increase the EU’s draft budget for 2016 to €146.5bn, well above the €142.1bn suggested by member states and the European Commission’s original proposal of €143.5bn.
If passed, this would constitute an increase of 3.7% on the 2015 annual budget
