No stealth taper from Bank of Japan — Kuroda BoJ governor says bank has not started thinking about exit from monetary easing Share on Twitter (opens new window) Share on Facebook (opens new window) Share on LinkedIn (opens new window) Save Save to myFT Robin Harding in Tokyo 16 MINUTES AGO The Bank of Japan is fully committed to easy monetary policy and is not about to scale back its stimulus, governor Haruhiko Kuroda insisted at a press conference on Tuesday. The yen weakened to trade below ¥111 against the dollar following Mr Kuroda’s remarks. Earlier in the day, the BoJ kept policy on hold, with interest rates at minus 0.1 per cent and a cap on ten-year bond yields at about zero. Mr Kuroda’s pledge should dampen market speculation that the BoJ will soon follow the US Federal Reserve and European Central Bank towards an exit from easy monetary policy.
