il y a 3 heuresI’d be surprised if the bulk of the much talked about Ukrainian counteroffensive focused on Bakhmut. Wouldn’t have expected that.

il y a 2 heuresRussia did a similar mistake with Kharkiv. Karkive oblast had very few troops. The Ukrainians noticed it, gathered enough forces and pushed the Russians back.

il y a 3 heuresUAF AFVs and tanks can be used to dent the fronts anywhere. That is what Russia has done for a while before started seriously sieging Bakhmut. Russia should have reinforced line holding defensive units but did not do that or did not do that everywhere. The reason you want to have large amount of AFVs and tanks is to be able to push the front where it is seems to be the weakest and force the enemy to commit more resources to defend the line.Lire la suite

il y a 1 heureThomas Röper, a german journalist who lives in Russia and regularly visiting the front in Donbass recently said, that soldiers told him that as long Ucraine is sending troops and material in to Bakhmut they are not planning to conquer it completly because for them it is a good to reach target for Artillery/Bombs/Rockets and it prevents ucrainian counter offensive.

il y a 2 heuresThe point that concerns me is simply this, given that your analysis is more or less correct, that you can see the strategic dangers for Russia – and I do think your arguments seem logical – why don’t the Russians do something? What is going on with the high command in Russia? It seems that they are in danger of being completely over run because they have, apparently, not committed sufficient numbers into key strategic areas. All the gains of the Wagner forces will be lost – and possibly a domino affect will then occur with Russia having to completely withdraw. They surely have the fire and man power within the country – so why aren’t they using it? The lives that both sides have lost, the total destruction of large areas of land – for what? It all just seems crazy. I just don’t understand!Lire la suite

il y a 1 heureIn November 1942, the German forces were close to fully control Stalingrad when the Soviet launched operation Uranus and trapped hundreds of thousands inside Stalingrad. There is serious chance that we will witness a similar scenario this year in Bakhmut.

il y a 2 heuresUkrain has now presented the russians with a dilemma. Pull forces and ammo from other parts of the front to support the flanks. Or risking Bakhmut beeing surrounded with heavy losses including the efforts of the last 9 months. Russia has to defend everywhere. Ukraine can push anywhere until they find weakspots. I sense the russian information space beeing a lot more scared than the chearleaders in YT comments.Lire la suite

il y a 4 heuresThe Russians initially underestimated the Ukrainians, but the Russians are smart. They know very well that the Ukrainians know everything, thanks to NATO. The Russians also know exactly where the Ukrainians’ strengths lie and where their own weaknesses lie. Based on this knowledge, the Russians prepared for the counteroffensive. Even though I’m pro Ukrainian, I still know who Russians are and what they’re capable of. So, unfortunately, I don’t think the counter-offensive will end well for Ukraine…Lire la suite

il y a 1 heureWhat this analysis miss is an evaluation of the cost of these small UAF gains on the flanks. The UAF are losing hundreds of men daily in order to take a few small patches of land or defend Bakhmut. This is what the « meatgrinder » is all about, after all.
